ポーランドの音楽家の家庭に生まれる。10歳でテレビ番組「Akademia muzyczna （アカデミア・ムジチナ）」に出演しピアニストとしてデビュー。その後、ポーランド国立フィルハーモニー・ホー ル等多くのコンサート・ホールで演奏し、海外の国際音楽祭にも多数参加する。作曲家、ジャズ・ピアニストと しても活躍。ワルシャワ・ショパン音楽院 (現・ ショパン音楽大学)ピアノ科卒業後、チューリッヒ音楽院研究科留学。アンジェイ・ヤシンスキ、イェジー・マルクウィンスキ、テレサ・マナステルスカ、ガブリエラ・ワイスの各氏に師事。1995年フランツ・リスト国際ピアノコンクール（ポーランド）入賞。1996年フレデリック・ショパン協会（ワルシャワ）より奨学金を得る。1997年ヨーロッパ・ピアノフォーラム(ベルリン)に出演。2002年第36回モントルー・ジャズ・フェスティバル(スイス)のプレスルームで演奏。2017年にリリースしたCD「Jazz Loves Chopin」は e-onkyo music の Top 100 Album ランキングで1位を獲得。2018年公開の映画「羊と鋼の森」にピアニスト役として出演。2021年にJapan Jazz Pop Piano Competition を設立。2022年5月に開催された「ウクライナ人道支援チャリティー・コンサート」にて神奈川フィルハーモニー管弦楽団と演奏。現在、福島学院大学教授、昭和音楽大学講師。ピティナ、ショパン国際ピアノコンクール in ASIAの審査員、ヨーロッパ国際ピアノコンクール in Japanの審査員長。
Born in an artistic family in Poland, Michal Sobkowiak made his TV debut on “Akademia muzyczna” series as the most talented young pianist at the age of ten. He has performed at major concert halls and music festivals across the country and abroad, including the prestigious National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw. After graduated from Chopin Academy of Music (currently known as the Frederyk Chopin University of Music) in 1998, he further pursued his postgraduate study at the Zürich Conservatory. His former teachers include Andrzej Jasiński, Jerzy Marchwiński, Teresa Manasterska and Gabriela Weiss. In 1995, he was a prizewinner at the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition (Warsaw). In 1996, he was given a scholarship from the Frederyk Chopin Society (Warsaw). In 1997, he appeared at the Europe Piano Forum (Berlin). Not only as a classical pianist, prof. Sobkowiak is also known as a jazz pianist, composer, and a dedicated teacher. His latest CD “Jazz Loves Chopin”, released in 2017, became number one on the Top 100 Album ranking of the e-onkyo music. In 2018, he starred as a pianist in the Japanese movie, “Hitsuji to Hagane no Mori”. In 2022, he performed with Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra for a charity concert for Ukraine. In 2024, he performed with his trio band “Trivergents” at Kawasaki Jazz Festival. Currently, he serves as a professor at Fukushima College and as a lecturer at Showa University of Music. He is a jury member at PTNA, Japan Piano Competition, and the International Chopin Piano Competition in ASIA, as well as the jury chairman of European International Piano Concours in Japan. In 2021, he founded the Japan Jazz Pop Piano Competition and serves as the jury chairman.
